It has been said that a carpet is the soul of a room. If that is the case, then Joseph Carini Carpets has provided many rooms with extraordinary souls.

I have been a client of theirs for over 15 years. In addition to purchasing carpets for clients all over the US, eight years ago I introduced these beautiful creations to clients in Australia, where they have become an instant hit.

First of all, the designs are so unique and chic. The variety of options certainly affords one the opportunity to find the perfect piece for any setting, be it contemporary or traditional-or somewhere in between. In addition, they can be modified to meet any requirements. The custom capability with regards to color and size is limitless. One is not restricted in any way to the many color options that they do show-these are only suggestions. I have many times needed a totally custom color and each time they have provided it.

Next, the quality is superb. The work is so fine that the backs of the carpets are often as beautiful as the fronts! The dying process is so glorious that the colors translate wonderfully. The actual weaving is so fine and precise. There is always great attention given to detail and the execution is exquisite.

The options with regards to materials available are tremendous. I have ordered carpets in nettle, wool, silk, mohair, and cashmere-and many combinations of these. They can be very thin or thick and shaggy.

Finally, I must comment on the quality of the staff at Joseph Carini Carpets-it is outstanding. Their knowledge is exemplary and the pleasant and courteous way in which they deal with people is a joy. I love taking clients in as they always leave with a tremendous sense of confidence. Mr. Carini himself is often available to meet with people and give his invaluable insight. The company is active in providing educational facilities for the children of weavers and has been most active in fighting the exploitation of children as workers. I must add that the process is handled in a timely and professional manner-and NEVER has a carpet taken longer thatn the original quoted time, even with the occasional earthquakes in Nepal.

I could go on forever but let me close by saying that Joseph Carini Carpets is as close as one can get to perfection-the firm allows one the opportunity to have a fine piece of art on the floor perfectly suited to their requirements.

Spectacular curation of area rugs in a stunning showroom which used to be a bank in the 1930's. Any degree of customization was possible. I worked with Holly on a totally bespoke silk shag, which took 3 months to be woven but the wait made it all the more other it. It is hands down the favorite homeware item I own and each time a guest comes over and ask about it, which they always do, I get to share the incredible journey this state of the art carpet made from Nepal into my home. It is a constant source of joy.

This store is almost a scam. My boyfriend lives in Soho and we bought two carpets. Both priced very high, but they made it sound like a good deal. I don't know what laborers they use (all carpets are from Nepal) but they are definitely exploited based on the mark-up. One of the staff told me ("in confidence") that the carpets are sold at 20-25 times what they are purchased for by "the owner who visits Nepal frequently", she added.

Staff are friendly, especially the two people who helped us. But the carpets are average quality, and when we checked with other dealers, we realized how much we had overpaid and what we could have gotten for the same money elsewhere, even ABC Carpets.

I will never shop here again or recommend the store to anyone. My heart goes out to the cheap laborers slaving away in Nepal-they probably think they are making a fortune (maybe they are by Nepal standards) but this store is a poor venue to buy carpets for your home or office. Take your money elsewhere.
