We recently had the pleasure of working with California Closets in Portland, and we couldn’t be happier with the experience. Our designer, Dina, was exceptional from start to finish. We were working with a limited budget, but Dina listened carefully to our needs and came through with a beautiful solution that didn’t compromise on quality or style.

She designed custom shelves and hanging spaces for three of our closets, and the final results exceeded our expectations. Dina's expertise and eye for detail ensured that everything not only looked great but also maximized our storage space. The installation process was seamless, and the quality of the materials used is top-notch.

I started with one designer, who did a good job listening to what I needed but when I asked to make some final adjustments, he seemed insulted and ghosted me for more than a month. We had the master bedroom closet scheduled but the other 3 were waiting for final approval. I finally called the area representative who was very responsive and quick in connecting me with a designer who lived in the same town. She was much better at understanding and communicating with me at lightening speed. A day after our first meeting she had the materials ordered and was actually able to schedule installation the day after the master bedroom closet, that I’d been waiting for, for 2 months!! The end result is very satisfying. I was able to finish moving out of cardboard and into my new, organized closet. The moral of the story is, they have a very nice product. If you get a designer you don’t like or who seems uninvolved in your project, and doesn’t respond to phone or email requests, call for a new designer. I hit the jackpot the second time.

Our consultant, Alison Salvo, was friendly and easy to work with. She came into our home, performed measurements in both my wife and my closets and also worked on designing the space in our washer/dryer room. Her design recommendations perfectly fit the space and addressed the needs we had in terms of what cabinets and shelving were needed to be used. The installation took about an entire day and our installer did a great job. We had an issue where the hardware pieces that were installed on the cabinets were bronze but they quickly reordered black to match the rest of the theme in our other cabinets and came back to reinstall the following week.

The only reason why I knocked off one star was the fact that the locking mechanism underneath the cabinets were not secured properly and after a few months of usage they came off. We also see this same issue with the cabinets that came preinstalled in our new home so I question the design of these plastic locking tabs and especially why the mounting screws were designed to go at an angle.

I emailed Alison and we are still going to determine a time for the installers to come back and make these repairs. Overall the build quality of the cabinets and service I received is stellar- it’s just the locking hardware design underneath the cabinets that are questionable and hopefully can be improved.
